Then how come there aren't more Muslim terrorists staging attacks?
(NATIONAL) -- Sometimes news media types as well as non-newsies fail to ask the right question. That is because both classes of life participants tend to ask the obvious questions . But obvious is not synonymous with right, correct, proper or even appropriate.To that end (of asking the right question) along comes Charles Kurzman, a University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill sociology professor who asks perhaps the most obvious unasked question of the decade in his new book The Missing Martyrs.
A question millions of westerners have failed to ask: "If there are more than a billion Muslims in the world, many of whom supposedly hate the West and desire martyrdom," he asks, "why don't we see terrorist attacks everywhere, every day?"
Or look at the question from another angle, writes Aaron Ross in a new review in Mother Jones about Kurzman’s new book: immediately after last month's murderous terrorist attacks in Norway, Islamic extremism shot to the top of almost every list of suspected culprits.
“Among the soothsayers of creeping Shariah, there was never any doubt who was responsible. Others' more rational, if hasty, assessments of Norway's threat matrix pointed to the same (wrong) conclusion. For all their differences, both lines of reasoning shared a common assumption: ”that the sheer volume of Muslim terrorists out there made their involvement likely,” writes Ross.
Which brings the subject back to that assumed volume thing, this never-ending supply of Muslim terrorists who want to bomb and maim and kill every westerner.
If there’s so many of them in the “axis of evil” as the Bush administration assured Americans **, why aren’t we seeing a terrorist attack every other day or week somewhere?
